Houshin Engi Anime

Houshin Engi has gotten two animes in its time, with some supporting media for both. They each have their own take, with Senkaiden veering off from the original story, and Hakyuu using a more accurate, but excessively fast pace.

Senkaiden Houshin Engi
仙界伝 封神演義

Senkaiden Houshin Engi follows the start of the manga, with a few obvious variations. Though the main cast of characters and their backstories are relatively similar, the series rapidly spins off in its own direction. Adapting an entirely new storyline and take on the Houshin Project as a whole, undoubtedly to fit the limited episode count. The animation quality is ok, and the series itself is worth a watch if you can bring yourself to let go of the manga plot.

Hakyuu Houshin Engi
覇穹 封神演義

Hakyuu Houshin Engi is an absolutely stunning take on the original manga, in terms of art quality. It's riddled with constant still frames, which isn't necessarily untrue for the old series (and many anime in general.) The largest complaint is that because it strives to adapt at least 1 manga volume per episode and skips others entirely, the pacing is ridiculously fast. It's hard to take in the storyline and even long time fans mourne the large amount of content that was cut from the series.
